What does spring replacement cost?
We recommend replacing torsion springs as a pair. Replacing both costs $300–$500. An extension spring pair with safety cables costs $180–$350. These are repair price ranges, not estimates of what insurance will pay.
For a full spring service, we also have replacement cables, drums, and center and end bearing plates. The spring pair price should not be read as a price for replacing all of those components.
Why springs fail during cold snaps
Sudden cold snaps stiffen lubricant and put more load on the springs. That extra load can be when a worn spring finally lets go. A failure during cold weather does not, by itself, establish insurance coverage.
Checking tracks, rollers, and hinges
We check track alignment with a level, re-shim and re-bolt loose brackets, and confirm that the rollers ride through the door’s full travel without binding.
For worn steel rollers, we use sealed nylon replacements. We support the door while swapping fatigued hinges. These checks address the door’s movement and hardware rather than treating every problem as a spring problem.
What our tune-up includes
Our tune-up pass includes tightening every hinge and bracket and lubricating the rollers, hinges, and bearing plates. We finish with a balance check before hand-off.

Good to Know Before You Call
My garage door won't open and there's a gap in the spring — what happened?
A visible gap or a loud bang usually means a broken torsion spring. The spring, not the opener, does the lifting; when it snaps the opener can't raise the door's full weight. Don't force it with the opener — that burns out the motor. It's a same-day repair for a technician with the right spring on the truck.
Is it dangerous to replace a garage door spring myself?
Yes — torsion springs hold enormous stored energy, and they're wound and unwound with winding bars under control. A slip, a screwdriver used instead of bars, or a wrong-sized spring can cause serious injury. This is the one garage-door job we tell people not to DIY.
If only one spring broke, do I have to replace both?
On a two-spring door we strongly recommend it. Both springs have the same age and cycle count, so if one just failed the other is close behind. Replacing the pair means one service call instead of two and a door that stays balanced, rather than one new and one worn spring pulling unevenly.
Other Things People Ask
What does a garage door repair visit cost?
Most single-issue repairs — rollers, track adjustment, a worn seal — land in the $90–$300 range including the service call. You get the exact number in writing after the door is inspected, before any work starts.
Should I repair my garage door or replace the whole thing?
Repair wins when the panels and track are sound and the problem is hardware — springs, rollers, cables, the opener. Replacement only makes sense when panels are rotted or badly bent, or the door is decades old and parts are gone. An honest inspection tells you which side you're on.
Do you work on all garage door brands?
The hardware that fails — springs, rollers, cables, hinges, drums — is standardized across residential brands, so brand rarely matters for a repair. Obsolete one-piece doors and some custom setups get evaluated on-site.
